Apex Guardian

About This Audiobook

Vrax grew up on the edge of the Nightmare Wood, where the trees have actual teeth. Everyone his age settled for a Common or Rare class. He held out, and it paid off in the bones of a long-forgotten nature god: a unique class called Paladin of the Cycle that lets him rework living things. A daisy named Sunshine becomes a man-eater. Another of his projects turns into a draconic apex predator that feeds on fear. For once you're the level designer instead of the guy farming mobs, and that pitch alone put it on my list. I haven't actually listened yet, so this pick is built on Audible data and early reviews, and both look great. It's sitting at 4.8 from 118 ratings after less than two months, with Neill Thorne's performance at 4.9. Reviewers love the monster designs and the horror that keeps tipping into comedy, and Duchess keeps coming up as the favorite. A few say the opening chapters drag. One is tired of a cast where almost everybody is morally gray, and another called it a druid Doctor Moreau, which tbh makes me want it more. It runs 17 hours.
