About This Audiobook
Marco maxes every childhood achievement the System will let him, right down to outrunning couriers up mountains, because the only job he has ever wanted is captain. On classing day the System makes him a Gluttonous Marauder, a unique class with combat perks and shipwright skills that does cover the captain stuff, plus a reputation so bad they arrest him on the spot. He gets away in a smuggler's dinghy that barely floats, and that boat is why I'm interested. It grows by feeding on his victories, and the ocean he's running across works like one endless dungeon. On paper that's base-building where the base can sink. R.C. Joshua, who wrote Demon World Boba Shop, started it as a Royal Road serial in 2025. I haven't heard the audiobook. Audible has it at 4.9 from 28 ratings, with Eric Jason Martin at 4.9 for performance. One reviewer's first thought was One Piece meets LitRPG, and another sums it up as "found family, punching pirates, and sticking it to the taxman," which, yes, please. Two reviewers say it moves too fast. One of them also thinks the System often feels like an afterthought, and that would bug me more than the pacing. It runs 12.5 hours. Book 2 is due on Kindle January 13, 2027.
