Gary is an above-average programmer stuck in a below-average life, and as a programmer I feel personally attacked. He finally gets a girlfriend and she explodes. Most of humanity goes with her, because an intergalactic outfit called the Network drafted Earth and purged everyone who isn't compatible with magic. Gary then chooses to walk into a forest full of alien horrors with nothing but a pencil. He's a spear fighter in a System with cultivation elements, and he's decided peace with the Network is off the table. Valerios wrote Road to Mastery, and that track record is why this is on the list one week after release. So no, I haven't heard it yet. The early numbers say 4.8 from just 13 Audible ratings, and J.S. Arquin is holding a perfect 5.0 for performance, small sample and all. Reviews split on the humor. One fan says the cultivation-meets-LitRPG mix kept them listening nonstop. A 4-star review says it tries too hard to be Dungeon Crawler Carl, and a 3-star one complains that the blurb sells something grim while the book plays nearly everything as a joke. Also, it's 35.8 hours. That's a lot of Book 1.
